The Panthers Swimming and Diving teams celebrated Senior Recognition night by defeating rival Bethel Park in both the Boys and Girls meets last night. The girls won by the score of 92-89 while the boys won 98-85. The girls team is now 5-2 on the season while the boys raised their record to 6-1.
Among the many highlights of the meet were Seniors Amanda Aidar and Kaitlyn Connors achieving the “WPIAL Sweep,” which means they both qualified for the WPIAL Championship meet in all 8 individual events. Congratulations, girls!
Other highlights include the following performances:
- Kendell Drew won the 200 freestyle and 100 freestyle
- Ben Whiteford won the 200 freestyle and Max Shipley also had a great performance
- Griffin Tomsheck and Liam Tomb swept first and second place in the 200 IM
- Lylah Kateeb hit a personal best in the 50 free
- Cullen Moriarty broke 30 in the 50 free for the first time!
- Delaney Burnette and Livia Tranquilli placed first and second in diving
- Kobe Yuyi, Carter Wells and Carter Richie swept 1-2-3 in boys diving
- Kaitlyn Connors, Lauren Mittleider and Freja Kile placed 1-2-3 in the 100 back
- The boys 400 free relay team of Griffin Tomsheck, Nazar Zoukovski, Max Shipley and Ben Whiteford swam a season-best time of 3:16.35 in winning the 400 free relay
The next meet for our USC Panthers is Thursday, February 1 when we travel to Peters Township for a highly anticipated Section showdown
